KP Inaugurates 40.8MW Koto Hydropower Plant, Announces Provincial Line for 11 Projects

A new transmission line will channel local hydropower to industry at concessional rates.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the Koto facility in Lower Dir on Saturday.
  • The project cost Rs21.7 billion and is projected to produce 207 million units of electricity annually, generating about Rs2.4 billion in revenue.
  • Afridi said KP is installing its first dedicated transmission line, reported at roughly 120 kilometres, to carry power from 11 hydropower plants directly to industry.
  • He also opened the 18.5-kilometre Tormang–Razgram road, completed for Rs1.5 billion to improve regional connectivity.
  • Afridi cited delays in NOCs for foreign engineers and claimed the federal government owes KP Rs3 trillion, issues he said are slowing major hydropower schemes.
