KP Governor Receives Gandapur’s Resignation as Assembly Sets Oct. 13 Vote for New Chief Minister

The governor has acknowledged a handwritten resignation now under legal review.

Overview

  • Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said a handwritten resignation from Ali Amin Gandapur was received at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and will be scrutinized in line with constitutional requirements.
  • An official notification moved up the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s session to Oct. 13 at 10 a.m., with nomination papers due Oct. 12 and scrutiny the same day.
  • PTI has nominated Sohail Afridi for chief minister, is counting roughly 92 votes, and is courting support from JUI-F, ANP and PPP ahead of the ballot.
  • PTI cites Article 130(8) to argue the resignation takes effect upon submission, while the Governor’s House says formal legal review must precede further action.
  • PTI has prepared fallback options, including a no-confidence motion or assembly confirmation of the resignation, after a previously typed letter reportedly went missing.
