KP Accelerates Safe Cities Rollout, Targets Peshawar Go-Live by Jan. 31

Overview

  • Officials reported 80% pole installation in Peshawar, cameras active at 46 sites, and 85% completion of the command center, with 711 cameras planned across 133 locations including ANPR, facial recognition, general, thermal, and body-worn units.
  • Priority deployments in Dera Ismail Khan (88 cameras), Bannu (76), and Lakki Marwat (47) are slated to be operational by the end of January.
  • Project PC-1s have been finalized for Karak, Tank, and North Waziristan, with planned camera coverage at 45 sites in Tank, 40 in Karak, and 37 in North Waziristan.
  • Authorities were directed to map and integrate private CCTV from hotels, commercial areas, housing societies, and schools where feasible under technical standards, legal compliance, and privacy safeguards.
  • Merged districts will receive 24-hour solar power to ensure uninterrupted operations, with phased expansion to remaining divisional headquarters guided by security priorities and feasibility.
