Koukas Launches 2026 Arles Bid With Broad Left Backing as LFI Declines

The campaign now shifts to building a list and program for early 2026.

Overview

  • Nicolas Koukas formally announced his candidacy for mayor of Arles and will run under the banner La Force de l’union.
  • At least nine parties back the bid, including the PCF, PS, Place publique, Génération écologie, L’Après, Générations, GRS, Debout ! and the NPA.
  • La France insoumise is not joining the coalition, and Les Écologistes are still weighing their position.
  • Koukas says the list will include 30–40% non‑party citizens and centers on public services, safety and cleanliness, and ecological transition.
  • The outgoing majority is split, with the mayor now aligned with Horizons and deputy Jean‑Michel Jalabert running his own list, and no local polling has been published.
