Kotri Holds at Medium Flood as Upstream Levels Ease

Forecasters expect Kotri’s elevated flows to persist into late September due to sustained basin pressure.

Overview

  • Official gauges show the Indus at Kotri in medium flood near 336,197 cusecs, while Guddu and Sukkur remain in low flood, the FFD reported Sunday.
  • Water levels at Guddu and Sukkur continue to recede, with latest flows around 244,887 cusecs and 255,660 cusecs respectively, indicating easing pressure upstream.
  • Pakistan’s major reservoirs remain near capacity, with Tarbela at 100% storage and Mangla at 97%, sustaining higher downstream risk despite upstream declines.
  • A breach in the Loop Bund sent water into Bakhri town and nearby villages in Naushahro Feroz and widespread inundation was reported in parts of Jamshoro district.
  • The Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala stands in medium flood and has formed a 20–25 km inland lake that damaged the M5 motorway, as relief operations scale up with NDMA reporting 36,000 tents, 2,270 tonnes of supplies, and over three million people rescued since late June.
