Overview

  • The KOSPI rose 1.02% to 3,173.88 in the first 15 minutes on Aug. 22, building on the prior session’s bounce.
  • On Aug. 21 the index closed at 3,141.74, snapping a three-day decline as buying returned to cyclical pockets.
  • Institutional investors bought 227.8 billion won on Aug. 21 while retail and foreign investors sold 259.0 billion won and 83.6 billion won, respectively.
  • Defense, nuclear power and shipbuilding led gains, with Doosan Enerbility and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries jumping previously and Hanwha Aerospace up 4.32% at the open.
  • Bond yields eased with three-year at 2.438% and five-year at 2.605%, and the won hovered near 1,398–1,400 per dollar.
