KoRo Recalls Four Organic Spreads Over Ochratoxin A Contamination

Consumers have until September 1 to file online refund claims, with retail returns accepted without a receipt.

Overview

  • The recall covers Bio Auberginen Aufstrich, Bio Kichererbsen Aufstrich, Bio Tomate Basilikum Aufstrich and Pikanter Bio Paprika Aufstrich with specific EANs and best-before dates.
  • Laboratory tests revealed that sunflower seeds in these products exceeded the EU’s legal limit for ochratoxin A, a toxic mold metabolite.
  • Authorities warn that ochratoxin A is a carcinogenic, genotoxic mold toxin that accumulates in the kidneys and can cause lasting organ damage.
  • The affected spreads were sold through KoRo’s online shop and in more than 10,000 European retail outlets including Rewe, Edeka, dm, Rossmann, ICE restaurants and Eurowings.
  • Refunds are available by submitting an online claim by September 1, 2025, or by returning products in stores without a receipt for a full reimbursement.
