Konosuke Takeshita Wins IWGP World Heavyweight Title at King of Pro-Wrestling

The G1 Climax winner’s early cash-in now sets up an immediate showdown with Hirooki Goto.

Zack Sabre Jr.’s second reign ended at 106 days with the loss in Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan.
The match ran just over 30 minutes and ended after Takeshita landed two Powerdrive Knees for the pin.
Former champion Hirooki Goto stepped forward in the ring to challenge the new titleholder right after the bout.
Takeshita earned the opportunity by winning this summer’s G1 Climax and chose to use the title shot before the Jan. 4 Tokyo Dome show.
He is slated to team with Kazuchika Okada at AEW WrestleDream on Oct. 18 in St. Louis against AEW World Tag Team Champions Bandido and Brody King.
