Konkan Railway Launches Ro-Ro Train for Private Cars on Kolad–Verna Route

Bookings must reach 16 cars per trip for operations to proceed.

Overview

  • The maiden run left Kolad at 3:40 pm on Aug. 23 with five cars across 10 wagons and 19 passengers in two coaches, due in Verna on Sunday morning.
  • Konkan Railway has scheduled notified trips through Sept. 11 with registrations accepted up to three days before departure by 5 pm.
  • Officials said services may be skipped on days with fewer than 16 cars booked, reflecting modest initial uptake in the first days.
  • The rake can carry up to 40 cars, with fares set at Rs 7,875 for Kolad–Verna and Rs 5,460 to Nandgaon Road, where the train also halts.
  • Passengers travel in attached coaches, including a dedicated AC coach, with up to three people per car allowed in 3AC at a reported Rs 935 per person, and KR notes this is its first Ro-Ro for private cars after pioneering truck Ro-Ro in 1999.
