Konkan and Western Railways Finalize Monsoon Readiness for June–October Season

Enhanced drainage systems along vulnerable routes will prevent track flooding during the monsoon.

Overview

  • Konkan Railway’s monsoon timetable runs June 15–October 20 with sectional speed limits and a 40 km/h cap under low-visibility conditions.
  • KRCL has deployed 636 specialized personnel and stationed excavators and Rail Maintenance Vehicles at nine vulnerable sites for 24/7 landslide patrols.
  • Automated rain gauges and flood warning systems on key bridges will halt services if track water exceeds 100 mm.
  • Western Railway desilted over 55 km of drains, cleared 58 culverts, built a 4.5 km retaining wall and installed 104 dewatering pumps to ward off flooding.
  • Both railways have set up permanent control rooms linked with IMD forecasts and equipped staff with VHF, mobile and satellite communication for emergency response.
