Kondareddypally Becomes India’s Second, South India’s First, Fully Solar-Powered Village

Backed by public funds and CSR support, the rollout is already earning Kondareddypally money from power sold to the state grid.

Overview

  • The project covers 514 houses and 11 government buildings, with 480 homes fitted with 3 kW rooftop systems and public institutions using 60 kW units.
  • Officials say each household generates about 360 kWh a month, removing electricity bills and ensuring uninterrupted power.
  • Surplus energy is supplied to the grid at ₹5.25 per unit, producing nearly ₹5 lakh in revenue reported for September.
  • The ₹10.53 crore initiative includes a ₹3.56 crore Central subsidy, ₹4.09 crore in CSR funds and ₹2.59 crore for infrastructure, executed by the state renewable energy corporation with community participation.
  • Thirty-four mud-walled houses will be added after Indiramma replacements are built, and officials tout the village as a model blending modern technology with rural life.
