Kolkata Police Pilot Car in TMC MLA Convoy Hits Motorbike, Killing Rider

Investigators are reviewing CCTV following reports that the escort car’s registration was blocked.

  • The collision occurred on the BhangarKolkata route in Bamanghata on Tuesday morning as the convoy of TMC MLA Saokat Molla was en route to the city.
  • Police said the Kolkata Police pilot vehicle leading the convoy had a head-on crash with the motorcycle, then struck an electric pole, damaging its front.
  • The motorcyclist, identified as Mohammed Tajuddin of South Kolkata’s Karaya area, was taken to SSKM Hospital and died in the afternoon.
  • Molla, traveling behind the pilot car, offered condolences and said the accident happened due to a brake failure on the vehicle.
  • Kolkata Police have opened a probe through the Leather Complex Police Station, with DC Traffic YS Jagannathrao stating that CCTV footage is being examined, and a source later reported the pilot car is about 15 years old with a blocked registration and no pollution certificate.
