Kolkata Metro to Halt Blue Line South Section for Turnout Work on Aug. 30–31

The upgrade is meant to reduce delays caused by the Kavi Subhash shutdown that has forced train turnbacks at Shahid Khudiram.

Overview

  • Services will be suspended between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Shahid Khudiram from 10 pm on August 30 until 4 pm on August 31 to install a turnout enabling smoother train changeovers.
  • Kolkata Metro will run additional morning services on August 31 for West Bengal PSC exam candidates, with Blue Line trains from 7 am between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Dakshineswar and Green Line operations starting at 8 am.
  • The Yellow Line between Noapara and Kolkata Airport suffered a roughly 45‑minute outage on Friday due to a point problem at Jai Hind Bimanbandar, with both directions halted until the fault was fixed around 9:30 am.
  • Kavi Subhash station remains closed after cracks were detected in four pillars on July 28, making Shahid Khudiram the temporary southern terminal for the Blue Line.
  • Metro officials and commuters report train pile‑ups, 10–40 minute delays, and short‑terminations at Tollygunge as passenger loads rise following new corridor openings, with a union alleging staffing and training gaps.
