Overview

  • Trains will be halted on the Howrah Maidan–Esplanade stretch on August 3 to conduct the final Automatic Train Operation trial ahead of the corridor’s full opening.
  • Normal services on the North-South corridor between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram will continue uninterrupted during the test day.
  • The Commissioner of Railway Safety has approved the Sealdah–Esplanade segment after subsidence repairs stemming from the 2019 Bowbazar aquifer burst.
  • Since January, multiple signalling trials and traffic blocks have been carried out on the Esplanade–Sealdah–Sector V section to validate system performance.
  • Full operation of the East-West line now hinges on the Prime Minister’s Office giving final clearance once the August 3 test is completed.
