Kolkata Metro Extends Operating Hours and Boosts Frequency on Three Corridors

Metro Railway Kolkata rolled out the revised schedule to accommodate surging ridership with tailored weekend closures

Overview

  • On Green Line-1 (SealdahSalt Lake Sector V), services have increased from 106 to 108 trains daily with the first departure at 6:35 a.m. and the last at 10 p.m., and no operations on Sundays.
  • Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan–Esplanade) now operates 134 daily trains—up from 130—with service hours from 6:30 a.m. to 9:53 p.m. and continued Sunday availability.
  • Purple Line (Joka–Majerhat) saw its daily services rise from 72 to 80 trains, running from 6:50 a.m. to 9:14 p.m. on weekdays with closures on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Metro Railway Kolkata tailored each corridor’s schedule changes based on ridership surges at Salt Lake Sector V’s IT hub and the expanding Joka–Majerhat suburban corridor.
  • The combined service uplift raises total daily runs on the three corridors from 308 to 322, aiming to ease crowding during peak travel periods.
