Overview

  • KMC identified wards 66, 67, 69, 70, 77, 93 and 108 as vulnerable after clusters of cases were found within small localities.
  • Vector control teams are visiting these areas every two to three days to locate and eliminate breeding grounds.
  • The civic survey has mapped 7,420 open plots (1,823 flagged as dangerous) and 4,070 stagnant water bodies, with 1,195 plots cleaned and 440 ponds restored.
  • Since January, reported cases total 290 in the Calcutta municipal area, 140 in Howrah, 91 in Bidhannagar and 11 in New Town as officials cite under-construction buildings and illegal dumping as recurring sources of stagnant water.
  • Two adult dengue deaths were reported in the Calcutta municipal area this month after a June death of a 13-year-old, and doctors advise testing for fevers lasting more than two days without respiratory symptoms.
