Overview
- Sinha appeared before ED officers for a second straight day on September 26 and was questioned for hours about his dealings, savings and investments.
- The special PMLA court rejected a seven-day custody plea, kept his interim bail in place and capped interrogation to office hours, with reporting at 11 a.m. and no questioning after 5 p.m.
- The ED’s sixth supplementary PMLA complaint alleges Rs 1.18 crore in phased cash deposits into a joint account held by Sinha and his wife between January 2016 and November 2019.
- Investigators earlier seized about Rs 41–42 lakh from Sinha’s Bolpur residence in March 2024, which the agency says he failed to satisfactorily explain.
- The case stems from alleged cash-for-school-jobs practices during 2014–2021 under a probe ordered by the Calcutta High Court in 2022, with trial proceedings now underway in the Alipore court.
