Kolkata Airport Weather Drill Meets Global Response and Fire-Control Standards

Overview

  • The Airports Authority of India held the emergency simulation at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on May 29 as part of its monthly preparedness routine.
  • Sixteen Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting team members and nine CISF personnel responded to a mock aircraft crash using two ARFF vehicles and two ambulances.
  • The drill was carried out in heavy rain to assess crews’ operational efficiency under adverse weather conditions.
  • Emergency teams reached the crash site in 120 seconds and extinguished the simulated fire within one minute, beating the 138-second response and one-minute control targets.
  • The exercise reinforced inter-agency coordination and validated emergency response protocols against international aviation safety requirements.
