Kohli Will Play for Delhi When Available, DDCA Chief Says

Delhi views any domestic appearances as a chance to give Kohli 50-over match practice ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Overview

  • DDCA president Rohan Jaitley said on Friday that Virat Kohli remains part of Delhi’s plans and will turn out for the state whenever his international commitments and workload management allow.
  • The DDCA is discussing the possibility of Kohli featuring in the 2026–27 Vijay Hazare Trophy in December, but his participation depends on a packed ODI calendar that includes tours to the West Indies, New Zealand and a home series against Sri Lanka.
  • Kohli now concentrates on one-day international cricket after retiring from Tests and last played domestic matches for Delhi in 2025, so domestic windows for 50-over preparation are limited and therefore valuable.
  • At the DDCA’s recent prize distribution, the association reported a 10% rise in prize money for 2025–26 and said it is working with the BCCI to identify land for a new, world-class stadium to boost local cricket infrastructure.
  • If Kohli does play for Delhi, it could give him specific match practice against state bowlers ahead of the World Cup while drawing bigger crowds and attention to grassroots competitions that feed the state team.
