Kochi Sub-Inspector Suspended After FIR Alleges ₹4 Lakh Extortion of Colleague

Police say the Palarivattom officer was suspended pending a departmental inquiry after an extortion complaint led to a criminal case.

The SI from Palarivattom police station was suspended on Saturday pending a departmental enquiry, according to police.
Kochi City police registered an FIR on Friday naming Baiju K. K., Shiham and Ramya, with extortion charges under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said the third accused, a civilian, has been arrested, while the SI and the spa employee have not yet been arrested.
The FIR states a spa employee accused the complainant of a missing gold necklace, demanded ₹6.5 lakh, and, with others, obtained about ₹4 lakh by October 1.
District Police Chief Putta Vimaladitya has sought an internal report as the investigation continues.
