Overview
- The Eerste Divisie match in Leeuwarden was stopped for nearly an hour late on after fireworks were thrown from the ADO away end into a Cambuur section, prompting clashes.
- Play eventually resumed and Cambuur’s 2-0 lead stood to full time, handing ADO its first league defeat since August.
- The KNVB called the scenes “absolutely unacceptable” and specified penalties including at least 18 months for fireworks offenses, 36–48 months for public violence, and 60 months for entering the pitch.
- ADO chief executive Natascha van Grinsven-Admiraal condemned the behavior and said the club will investigate, identify the culprits and remove them from the club’s supporter base.
- Regional safety services also responded to suspected heavy-fireworks explosions that damaged a car in Rotterdam-Hoogvliet, and the EOD neutralised crystallised hazardous substances found at a school in Warffum.
