KNMI Issues Yellow Alert for Wind and Heavy Rain in Western Netherlands

Forecasters link the burst of severe weather to a British low named Amy influenced by Humberto’s remnants.

Overview

  • KNMI has issued a code yellow for Saturday in Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland, Zeeland, Friesland and the Wadden Islands, with west to southwest gusts expected to reach 80–90 km/h.
  • The most disruptive window is forecast from Friday evening through midday Saturday, featuring a rapid shift to stormy conditions.
  • Rainfall is set to be substantial with 20–25 mm widely and local totals near 30–50 mm, raising the risk of water nuisance and localized flooding.
  • Coastal areas and large inland waters will see the highest impact, with stormy conditions over the IJsselmeer and Markermeer at force 7–8 and travel cautions on exposed routes.
  • The ROETZ Festival in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel has been canceled as a precaution, while winds and rain are expected to ease Saturday afternoon with Sunday less severe.
