KNMI Confirms Magnitude 2.0 Quake Near Woudbloem in Groningen

KNMI links the shallow tremor to earlier gas extraction in the Groningen field.

  • Residents reported feeling the shaking via RTV Noord’s reporting tool, and no injuries or major structural damage were reported in the coverage.
  • KNMI classifies the event as an induced quake related to past gas production, marking the second this month and the strongest recorded in December so far.

  • Recent regional activity included a magnitude 3.4 near Zeerijp in mid-November followed by a 2.1 aftershock, and the Interior Ministry advises reporting any damage to the Instituut Mijnbouwschade Groningen.
