Königssee Ice Track Reopening Deferred to October 2026

Required coolant-line work coupled with scarce specialist labour has halted the November 2025 reopening, forcing sliding events to move to other tracks.

Overview

  • A TÜV inspection in early 2025 found that an additional 675 metres of coolant pipeline must be replaced before the Königssee track can resume operations.
  • The Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland confirmed the facility will remain closed for the 2025/2026 season due to these technical mandates and a shortage of qualified workers.
  • All scheduled 2025/2026 national and international competitions, including January’s luge World Cup and the planned Olympic test event, have been reassigned by FIL and ISBF to alternative venues.
  • The €53 million rebuild, financed by the federal-state Aufbauhilfe 2021 relief fund, now aims for mid-October 2026 readiness for icing and competition.
  • Olympic champion Felix Loch and other stakeholders have expressed frustration and demanded accountability over the prolonged delays and resource challenges.
