Knife Attack in France Kills One, Injures Several in Suspected Islamist Terror Act

A 37-year-old Algerian man on a terror prevention watchlist was arrested after targeting police officers and a civilian in Mulhouse market.

A knife attack in Mulhouse, eastern France, left one civilian dead and several injured, including five municipal police officers, two of whom are in serious condition.
The suspect, a 37-year-old Algerian man, shouted 'Allahu Akbar' during the attack and was arrested at the scene; he was already on a terrorism prevention watchlist (FSPRT).
The attack occurred near a demonstration, and France's national anti-terror prosecutor's office (PNAT) is leading the investigation, treating the incident as a terrorist act.
French President Emmanuel Macron described the attack as 'Islamist terrorism' and vowed to take decisive action, while Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau visited Mulhouse to oversee the response.
The suspect was under judicial supervision, house arrest, and an active deportation order, but Algeria previously refused to accept his expulsion.
