Kmart Recalls Bluey, Frozen and Paw Patrol Sensory Sand Sets After Asbestos Found

Officials describe a low airborne risk, directing customers to stop use then follow disposal instructions.

Overview

  • The recall covers HL Toys International Sensory Activity Sets licensed for Bluey, Frozen 2 and Paw Patrol with SKUs 43625239, 43610266 and 43610259 sold between 8 October and 17 November 2025.
  • Laboratory testing detected tremolite and chrysotile-type asbestos in some sand samples, triggering removal of the products from sale.
  • Kmart and regulators instruct customers not to open the sand tub, to seal any opened tub in a plastic bag, and to use ACCC guidance for safe disposal rather than household waste.
  • MBIE says respirable asbestos was not detected in tested samples and reports the airborne exposure risk is low unless the sand is mechanically processed.
  • Kmart reports about 684 units were sold in New Zealand, and the action forms part of broader industry recalls of coloured and kinetic sand products following earlier warnings.
