Köln Hauptbahnhof to Halt Most Train Services for 12-Hour Signal Upgrade

The €22 million modernization project on February 23 will enhance track flexibility and require major rerouting of train services.

The modernization work involves installing 25 new signals and updating control technology to allow bidirectional track usage.
The disruption will occur from 4:25 PM on Sunday, February 23, to 4:25 AM on Monday, February 24, affecting most train services.
Long-distance trains will be rerouted to Köln Messe/Deutz or Köln-Ehrenfeld stations during the closure.
S-Bahn services and Regionalbahn line RB 25 will run as scheduled, while other regional services will face partial cancellations, rerouting, or skipped stops at Köln Hauptbahnhof.
The Deutsche Bahn project is part of a €22 million investment aimed at improving infrastructure and operational efficiency.
