KLM Cancels 104 Flights as Schiphol Ground Staff Stage Four-Hour Strike

A four-hour walkout by CNV and FNV underscores an unresolved pay and conditions dispute that is set to escalate.

Overview

  • KLM cut about 15% of departures on 17 September and warned of knock-on delays after ground staff stopped work from 08:00 to 12:00 CET at Amsterdam Schiphol.
  • The action was led by CNV and FNV, which remain outside agreements KLM reached earlier with NVLT, VKP and De Unie.
  • Unions have announced longer strikes next: six hours on 24 September (08:00–14:00) and eight hours on 1 October (06:00–14:00).
  • KLM said affected travelers will be automatically rebooked and urged customers to monitor the KLM app and website; EU EC 261 rights and duty-of-care provisions apply.
  • An earlier two-hour strike on 10 September affected about 27,000 passengers, with disruptions extending to other European airports served by KLM.
