Klimt Portrait Auctioned For Record $108 Million

Gustav Klimt's "Lady with a Fan" sold for $108.4 million at Sotheby's auction house in London, making it the most expensive artwork ever auctioned in Europe.
The painting depicts an unidentified woman against a backdrop of dragons and lotus blossoms and was the last portrait Klimt completed before his death in 1918.
The buyer was art adviser Patti Wong, acting on behalf of a Hong Kong collector.
The sale price well exceeded the presale estimate of $80 million and set a new auction record for Klimt's work.
Klimt's art has consistently achieved some of the highest prices at auction, with two more of his portraits reported to have sold privately for over $100 million.
