Overview
- The KLE JGMM Medical College and the KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre were formally inaugurated on Saturday, creating an integrated campus of about 50 acres with a 1,200‑bed teaching hospital built at an estimated cost of roughly ₹700 crore.
- Organisers had planned a 11 a.m. inauguration attended by thousands, but Amit Shah fell ill and skipped the morning ceremony, a development confirmed by KAHER chancellor Prabhakar Kore.
- Hours later Shah visited the Gabbur campus in the evening, inspected facilities and lighted the lamp to mark the formal inauguration.
- The project was developed by KLE Society and KAHER with a 23‑acre land donation from the Moorusavir Mutt and ties into KLE’s wider network that educates about 1.48 lakh students.
- Officials framed the opening as a boost to regional healthcare and medical education that could increase access to specialised care, expand training slots for doctors and support national goals to grow the country’s medical workforce.
