Overview

  • The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation logged just 11 kite-related overhead equipment trippings in 2025, down from 102 in 2021.
  • Insulation sleeves have been installed on catenary wires at 20 elevated stations to block metallic-coated kite strings from contacting live conductors.
  • Overhead equipment was modified to increase clearances and return conductors were shifted while Catenary Maintenance Vehicles operate during non-operational hours to clear stray threads.
  • Maintenance teams of five to seven staff are deployed across all lines during non-service hours to quickly remove entangled kite strings and restore punctuality.
  • An ongoing public awareness campaign urging caution near 25,000-volt overhead wires has garnered proactive cooperation and contributed to fewer trippings.
