Overview
- A fire started in the first-floor restaurant kitchen at Kohinoor Square in Dadar West on Monday and the Mumbai Fire Brigade reported receiving the alert at about 9:18 am before declaring a Level-1 fire.
- On-site security used extinguishers and broke glass doors while the building’s firefighting system operated, and firefighters brought the blaze under control within about an hour with cooling operations completed thereafter.
- Multiple civic agencies, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, BEST, PWD, the municipal health department and ambulance services, were mobilised to the scene to assist containment and safety checks.
- No injuries or casualties were reported and the fire was confined to the restaurant unit, but thick smoke affected parts of the building and a formal damage assessment is still pending.
- Officials provisionally blamed a faulty electric circuit for the ignition, and investigators will now determine the precise cause and the full extent of damage to inform any safety or regulatory follow-up.
