Overview
- The 1967 painting, also known as Conan the Berserker, will lead Heritage Auctions’ Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction on December 9–10.
- Hammett bought the work directly from Frank Frazetta in 2009 for $1 million.
- Created for Lancer’s paperback of Conan the Conqueror, the image is regarded as one of Frazetta’s defining portrayals of Robert E. Howard’s character.
- Heritage executive Joe Maddalena praised the painting’s influence on fantasy art, and Hammett said in a video it is time for the piece to find a new caretaker.
- Heritage is promoting the sale alongside other marquee lots including Tom Jung’s original Star Wars poster art, Elvis Presley’s 1976 Harley-Davidson, and Clint Eastwood’s Pale Rider revolver.
