Kinsau Council Approves Sharp Water and Sewer Rate Hikes After Cost Surge

Officials blame surging operating costs across energy, staffing and required emergency water purchases.

Overview

  • The council set new drinking-water charges at 2.70 €/m³ (from 1.22) with a 168 € base fee (from 72) and raised wastewater rates to 2.88 €/m³ (from 1.74) with a 69 € base fee (from 60).
  • Mayor Marco Dollinger said unexpected 2022–2025 operating costs left a deficit as local consumption fell about 10%.
  • He noted municipalities can no longer adjust fees mid-calculation period, limiting earlier responses to rising costs.
  • Kinsau must source 10% of its supply from Schongau’s emergency network to flush lines, which adds expense.
  • After a feasibility study, Kinsau and Apfeldorf opted to keep running their joint treatment plant, deemed cheaper than connecting to Landsberg.
