Kingston Police Upgrade Charge to Second-Degree Murder in Newborn Death

Investigators attribute the escalation to forensic findings provided by the coroner’s office.

  • On August 1, the Kingston Police Major Crime Unit announced a second-degree murder charge against 22-year-old Thi My Nguyen in connection with her newborn’s death.
  • The investigation began on July 27 after a deceased infant was discovered at a west-end home on Albany Drive.
  • Nguyen was first arrested on July 29 and charged with improperly interfering with a dead body before being remanded in custody on July 30.
  • Kingston Police’s patrol and forensic identification divisions worked with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service on the multi-agency inquiry.
  • Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Amanda Smith, Acting Detective Sergeant Joel Fisher or Crime Stoppers to aid the ongoing investigation.
