King Tides, High Surf Flood Seal Beach and Capistrano Beach as Advisories Remain

City crews deploy berms, pumps, sandbags to protect low-lying areas.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service kept a high surf advisory in effect for parts of Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties, with a coastal flood advisory through Friday afternoon in some areas.
  • Overnight flooding in Seal Beach sent mud and water into paths and a pier-adjacent parking area, with water reaching near beachfront homes as crews pumped water back to the ocean before the morning high tide.
  • At Capistrano Beach in Dana Point, waves overtopped rocks and k-rails, closing the parking lot and scattering debris across the beach trail as county workers began cleanup.
  • Seal Beach initiated winter sand berm construction and confirmed stocked sandbag stations at the 8th Street Beach Lot and OCFA Fire Station 44 for residents.
  • Forecasters and lifeguards warned of strong rip currents and sneaker waves and said the flooding threat should ease later Friday, with elevated surf and hazardous currents likely into Saturday.
