King Python Found in Bavarian Forest Headed to Munich Rescue Station

The transfer to Munich’s reptile station involved police, fire department crews, reptile rescue specialists for health screenings ahead of any owner claim

Overview

  • A 76-year-old woman discovered a motionless king python measuring over a meter in a forest near Kröning and contacted police with photos.
  • At the police station the cold-exposed snake warmed up and attempted to flee before fire crews transferred it to the Munich reptile rescue station.
  • Staff at the rescue center have placed the python in quarantine and are conducting disease screenings over concerns of cold-induced lung inflammation.
  • Police suspect deliberate abandonment of the reptile given the unlikely escape under low temperatures and are awaiting any owner to come forward.
  • If no owner claims it, the rescue center will arrange a new home for the python.
