King Fire Burns 400 Acres Near Gorman, Shutters I-5 Lanes

Overview

  • The King Fire ignited shortly after 1 a.m. near Copco Avenue and Smokey Bear Road south of Highway 138, advancing rapidly through dry brush under 30 mph wind gusts.
  • Firefighters from Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire, Angeles National Forest and Kern County are coordinating suppression operations.
  • By 3 a.m. the blaze had surrounded an RV park, destroying a double-wide trailer, two vehicles and two outhouses.
  • Evacuation warnings cover Paradise Ranch RV Park while residents of Pyramid Lake RV Park have been ordered to shelter in place.
  • Two northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed overnight before partial reopening, prompting officials to warn nearby residents to be prepared to evacuate.
