King Charles Visits Manchester Synagogue After Attack, Meets Survivors and Responders

The visit signaled support for a community still recovering from the Yom Kippur attack that killed two worshippers.

Overview

  • At Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation, the King met congregants who blocked the doors during the attack and spoke privately with injured survivors and bereaved families.
  • He later went to Greater Manchester Police headquarters to thank police, fire and ambulance personnel for their response, telling them, “Thank God we’ve got you.”
  • Speaking with faith leaders, Charles warned about the “ghastliness” of social media and said the country must work to deradicalise people.
  • Counter-terror inquiries and oversight reviews continue into the October 2 assault, in which firearms officers shot the attacker dead; investigators are examining evidence that police gunfire fatally struck one victim.
  • Two men were killed and three others were seriously injured on Yom Kippur; Andrew Franks and Yoni Finlay have been discharged from hospital, while security guard Bernard remains in care.
