King Charles Visits Lichfield Cathedral to View the Table for the Nation

The peat-preserved oak table has become a hub for community projects during its residency.

Overview

  • The King visited Lichfield Cathedral on 27 October 2025 to see the Table for the Nation on display in the Nave.
  • He met volunteers and representatives from Liberty Jamboree, MusicShare, cathedral embroidery volunteers and the city Foodbank.
  • The table was crafted from the 'Jubilee Oak,' a Fenland black oak preserved in peat for about 5,000 years and discovered in Norfolk in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee year.
  • Created as an emblem of national solidarity linked to the late Queen's jubilee, the table has been at Lichfield since May 2025 and is used for gatherings and hospitality.
  • A community-made 13‑metre table runner is being assembled from contributed squares and is due to be finished before the table’s planned relocation in April 2026.
