Overview
- Buckingham Palace said Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by Elke Büdenbender, will be hosted by the King and Queen at Windsor Castle from December 3 to 5.
- It will be only the fifth state visit from Germany since 1958, underscoring the occasion’s rarity.
- The engagement will be the monarch’s third incoming state visit of 2025, following those by French President Emmanuel Macron in July and U.S. President Donald Trump in September.
- The full program has not yet been released, with reports expecting a ceremonial welcome, a state banquet in St George’s Hall and talks with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
- Under U.K. practice, the monarch issues state-visit invitations at the government’s request, and Steinmeier has previously traveled to Britain, including for the 2023 coronation.
