Kick Says It Will Cooperate With France After Streamer’s On-Air Death

French prosecutors are examining whether the site knowingly hosted violent assaults during a marathon broadcast that ended in a death.

Overview

  • Kick issued a statement on Wednesday pledging full cooperation with French authorities and said it is reviewing the case with its legal advisers.
  • France’s junior digital minister, Clara Chappaz, announced plans to sue the platform for alleged breaches following the August 18 death of Raphaël Graven, known as Jean Pormanove.
  • Prosecutors say their inquiry includes whether Kick knowingly carried videos that constituted intentional assaults against the victim.
  • The death followed an approximately 12‑day livestream from a site near Nice that showed repeated humiliations and violence and was associated with a reported €36,411 donation pool and large audiences.
  • Early autopsy findings cited by the Nice prosecutor reportedly complicate claims that the assaults directly caused the death, with toxicology and additional analyses pending.
