Kia Unveils KRW 49 Trillion 2030 Plan Focused on EVs, Autonomy and Robots

Kia signals slower EV uptake, prioritizing investment in software and robotics.

Overview

  • Kia, which detailed the plan Thursday at its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, committed KRW 49 trillion through 2030 with about 43% for electrification, autonomous driving and robotics.
  • The company cut its 2030 EV sales goal by about 20% to 1 million vehicles, citing weaker demand and the loss of U.S. subsidies, and will expand its EV lineup from 11 to 14 models while adding nine gasoline models and 13 hybrids.

  • Software plans call for the first software-defined vehicle by late 2027 and Level 2++ driver-assist for highways and city streets starting in early 2029.
  • Robotics moves include deploying Boston Dynamics’ Atlas at Hyundai Motor Group’s Georgia metaplant in 2028 and at Kia’s Georgia factory in 2029.
