Kia Starts Building EV4 in Slovakia, Its First EV Made in Europe

Local output marks Kia's first European-built EV following a €108 million upgrade in Zilina.

Overview

  • Mass production of the five-door EV4 hatch began on August 20 at Kia’s Zilina, Slovakia plant, which added an EV battery conveyor as part of the modernization.
  • The EV4 hatchback is built in Slovakia, while the Fastback (sedan) variant is produced at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong plant in South Korea.
  • Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, the EV4 offers 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh battery options with Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Grid capabilities.
  • Kia plans EV4 deliveries in Europe starting in September, with additional rollouts including the EV5 later this year and the entry-level EV2 in 2026.
  • For North America, Kia has said the EV5 will launch in early 2026 exclusively in Canada, and the EV4 sedan is expected in the U.S. in early 2026.
