Kia Recalls Over 80,000 Niro Vehicles for Airbag and Seat Belt Safety Risks

The recall involves 2023-2025 Kia Niro models due to wiring issues that may impact airbag and seat belt functionality, with free repairs offered to affected owners.

The recall affects 80,255 Kia Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid SUVs manufactured between June 2022 and December 2024.
Damaged wiring beneath the front passenger seat may prevent airbags and seat belts from deploying properly or cause unintended side curtain airbag deployment.
Kia has reported no crashes, injuries, or fatalities associated with the defect as of January 2025.
Dealerships will inspect, reroute, and protect the floor wiring assembly free of charge, with owner notifications expected by March 14, 2025.
This recall follows a November 2024 action by Kia and Hyundai addressing separate safety concerns in over 208,000 electric vehicles.
