Kia Recalls 39,536 2021–2023 Sorento LX SUVs Over HVAC Wiring Fire Risk

A suspected supplier wiring defect causes overheating only at fan speed three with the ignition on.

  • The action covers Sorento LX models built at Kia’s Georgia plant from Sept. 10, 2020 through Dec. 29, 2023.
  • NHTSA posted the recall on Sept. 25, with owner letters set to begin Nov. 24 and a final remedy expected in December.
  • Dealers will replace the HVAC blower motor wiring harness plus the blower motor resistor at no charge.
  • Kia has documented 25 instances of connector melting and two vehicle fires, with no crashes or injuries reported.
  • Kia’s probe cites supplier quality variances, reported as thinner-than-spec wiring from Aptiv, and 2024 Sorento models are not affected.
