Kia Puts EV4 U.S. Launch on Hold Indefinitely

Kia blames changed EV market conditions for an open-ended pause.

Overview

  • A Kia spokesperson confirmed the EV4 electric sedan’s U.S. release is delayed "until further notice."
  • The car had been slated for an early 2026 arrival after its April New York Auto Show unveiling, targeting the low-$30,000 range with up to roughly 330 miles of range.
  • Kia did not give a reason, and industry reports point to the expired $7,500 federal EV tax credit and new tariffs on South Korean imports as possible pressures on the business case.
  • The EV4 uses Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform with 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh battery options and a 400-volt architecture aimed at lowering cost.
  • The pause reduces affordable EV choices in the U.S., mirrors other imported EV delays or cancellations, and comes as Kia’s EV3 still lacks a U.S. launch update; Kia Canada continues to list EV4 as "coming 2026."
