Kia Opens First PBV Plant in Hwaseong, Breaks Ground on Second

The project underpins a 4 trillion won plan to produce 2.63 million EVs in Korea by 2030.

Overview

  • The completed EVO Plant East is Hyundai Motor Group’s first PBV-dedicated factory and will build the PV5 with 100,000 units of annual capacity.
  • Construction began on EVO Plant West, slated to start operations in 2027 with 150,000 units of annual capacity including the PV7 and other large PBVs.
  • Kia plans a combined 250,000 PBVs per year from the Hwaseong complex to support the global expansion of its modular electric commercial lineup.
  • A PBV conversion center at the site will co-develop specialized variants of the PV series with strategic partners.
  • The event drew about 200 attendees, including Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, as Kia highlighted E-Forest smart-factory systems, automated guided vehicles, and mixed conveyor and cell assembly.
