Kia Carens Clavis Line Tops 21,000 Bookings as EV Orders Remain Limited

Fewer than 1,000 of the 21,000 bookings made to date are for the Carens Clavis EV, underscoring the gap between ICE demand and EV adoption in India’s three-row MPV segment.

Overview

  • In the four months since bookings opened on July 22, Kia’s Carens Clavis ICE and EV models have amassed 21,000 reservations, with the EV variant accounting for around 5 percent of total orders.
  • The Carens Clavis EV is priced from Rs 17.99 lakh for the base HTK+ trim to Rs 24.49 lakh for the HTX+ Extended Range model, ex-showroom India.
  • Shared with the Creta Electric, the EV offers two LFP battery choices—42 kWh for a 404 km MIDC range and 51.4 kWh for a 490 km range—driving a single front motor rated at 135 hp or 171 hp and supporting 100 kW DC fast charging (10–80% in 39 minutes).
  • The electric MPV retains the ICE Carens Clavis’ comfort and safety kit, including a panoramic sunroof, dual 12.3-inch screens, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, V2L capability and Level 2 ADAS in higher trims, but is only offered as a seven-seater.
  • Priced as India’s most affordable three-row EV, the Carens Clavis EV undercuts rivals like the BYD eMax 7 on cost while conceding battery capacity, power output, driving range and a six-seat layout option.
