Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Hands Police Armored Vehicles, Modern Weapons and Counter-Drone Gear

The move follows a resurgence of unrest since 2022.

Overview

  • On Dec. 8 at Peshawar Police Lines, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi formally transferred the new fleet and equipment to the K-P Police.
  • The package includes drone cameras, anti-drone guns and systems, thermal cameras and weapon sights, jammers, bulletproof jackets and helmets, armored vehicles, and rifles ranging from M-16s and submachine guns to sniper and heavy machine guns.
  • Officials said thermal optics will strengthen night surveillance, and bulletproof vehicles with side-armoring will make police movements safer.
  • Afridi praised the Police, CTD and Special Branch for counterterrorism work, pledged continued provisioning to make the force “invincible,” and vowed to maintain law and order across the province.
  • He laid flowers at the Martyrs’ Monument, cited “80,000 martyrs” with thousands from police and security forces, received a guard of honour, and inspected the newly handed-over gear.
